No more cash refunds at Alshaya stores

Surprisingly Alshaya has come up with a new policy of offering an Alshaya Gift Card instead of refunds for returned items. Even though the gift card will give the buyers 12 months to use their store credit, this policy is basically forcing them to use their money on Alshaya stores.
I read about it on Arabian Business this morning but I first came to know about this a few days ago when I was out shopping for a gift and they told me at the counter that there is no refund anymore and instead they will give a gift card. I found that to be a bit annoying because there are times when you need to return something you bought and getting store credit instead just doesn’t feel right in terms of consumer rights, that’s if we have any here. Although I appreciate that Alshaya brings a lot of good brands to Kuwait and they basically control a large portion of the retail market here, but forcing buyers to spend only at their stores is a little extreme don’t you think?

I hate their new policy! I dont want to Be forced to buy from Alshay3! This is aginst our rights as consumres!
Wish they can see the other countries policies! ex: United States of America! Even the big brands boutique accept refunds within 30 days of purches!!!
There is other solution which is Ordering online :)

I use to buy a lot of things from their shops but now I only buy things that Im 100% posistive I will not change or return back.

This is because most shoppers in Saudi Arabia are abusing. The primary reasons most likely is that, Women have the highest incidence of doing refunds after they have used the items already like going to a party or something. ITS A FACT! I also work in a retail store and Alshaya is a our competitor. But I see this happen all the time. Other shoppers use their credit cards to shop and then refund the items and get the cash without their banks charging them as it will come out as “purchase” in their billing statements and NOT Withdrawal. They make Alshaya and other retail stores their ATM MACHINES because they are avoiding the finance charges if they will withdraw it directly from the cash machines.
So I do not think this is an issue. I don’t understand why most of you people are complaining about the Policy. You should complain to your government why is it that there are no FITTING ROOMS IN SAUDI ARABIA regardless if its a Women’s or Men’s store.
