Hope for lower internet charges?

So it worked? MP Ahmad Al-Saadoun had pushed the MOC two days ago to check up on the Internet Service Providers and their unauthorized policies of setting bandwidth limits and the high internet charges since there happens to be no legislation or law that regulates them. Turns out that the Communications Sector of the MOC is actually conducting a study to reduce the internet charges by reducing the monthly capacity fees provided to the ISPs via Gulf cables in exchange for quality service to the internet user.

According to Al-Watan, the study will be submitted to the Minister of Information and Communications Sami Al-Nisf over the few coming days so lets wait and watch what we’re going to get out of this. No caps low prices? And why not? It’s about time that Kuwait’s internet services get their act straight and keep up with the global standards. We’re not in the 90s anymore so the overpriced low-bandwidth service just won’t do.

First of all I would like to make everyone understand what is ‘FAIR ACCESS POLICY’ and Why?

To ensure that every internet subscriber receives actual subscribed internet access irrespective of network load, however some subscribers perform continuous content downloading excessively resulting in slow internet access and affecting other general subscribers. FAP is to ensure that all subscribers get optimum Internet Access performance.A FAP is implemented that will allow content download threshold. This policy will establish an equal balance of internet access by various speeds to reduce and prevent abusive consumption of internet bandwidth by a small percentage of subscribers.

    Who are affected ?
FAP will only affect those subscribers who are excessively downloading content from Internet including full-length movies, P2P files, continuous video streaming. Regular Online Activities such as viewing websites, checking email, watching short streaming media presentations, online gaming or automatic software and anti-virus updates will not exceed the download threshold. This applies to downloads only.

Hopefully this piece of information helps..
