Asian Cup Qatar 2011™ opening ceremony

We missed out on watching the grand opening ceremony of the Asian Cup 2011 that kicked off at the Khalifa Stadium in Doha, Qatar.
From what I saw in the news and on Youtube, it was completely outstanding and a pretty good intro of how much more massive it would be for the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
The light show and the firework display throughout the city was just terrific. It was disappointing though that they lost to Uzbekistan in the opening match, it would definitely have been a morale booster for the Qatari nationals.
Kuwait’s loss to China was another big disappointment after their record win at the Gulf Cup. Their next match is on Jan 12th against Uzbekistan and Kuwait will then encounter the host Qatar team on Jan 16th.
Good luck Kuwait!
Here’s the video of the Asian Cup Qatar 2011 opening ceremony covered by the Abu Dhabi Sports Channel.
There is a nice booklet on the AFC [website] with details of all the teams playing in the Asian Cup along with each player’s profile. [Here] is the Kuwait Team booklet.

FIFA president Joseph S. Blatter opens the envelope to reveal that Qatar will host the 2022 World Cup making it the first Arab, Middle Eastern or Muslim country to be awarded the right to stage football’s World Cup.
It feels good to hear that World Cup will be held in the neighboring country! Though I’m so not into football but then again who doesn’t enjoy World Cup and cheering for a fancy team you don’t know much about.
