Say hello to my iPad

Posted by:

Hash got me an iPad on Valentine’s Day! It was such a wonderful surprise because we weren’t planning to do anything since he’s been down with the flu, and besides everyday is special for us :) Well since then I’ve been busy playing with my new toy and getting all my favorite apps I already use on my iPhone. Now I need to get me some accessories.. a case, a dock and the camera cable and memory card reader I read about on Danderma. Any suggestions on some cool apps I should get?

Hello iMac

Posted by:

So I finally got the iMac. I actually got it a few days after I posted about where to find the best deal for Macs in Kuwait but got so wrapped up with my music room setup that I didn’t find the time to blog about it.

I got the 27″ 2.7GHz iMac from Blink.com.kw for KD599 which turned out to be the best deal I could find. I had checked at almost all the electronic stores – iCity, Digits and Al-Nahar were all offering the iMac for a lot more than Blink, and if I had to order it online it would have cost me about KD469 plus another KD75 or more for Aramex’s Shop & Ship which would add up to about KD544 which is just a few dinars less than what I paid and I’m happy that I didn’t order it online because of what happened after I brought my new iMac home.

After we got home and I unpacked and set it up, I switched it on and there was no picture on the screen! I could hear the welcome video but the screen was blank. Sadly their customer support hours were over and I couldn’t call anyone for support or to report the faulty piece, even though I did call their number a few times just in case I got through to someone. Obviously I was very pissed and frustrated and couldn’t wait till morning so I could take it back. But the staff at Blink were very helpful and they gladly replaced it for a new one, tested it at the store just to make sure and since then I’ve been busy.

So if anyone’s looking for Macs, Blink has the best deal so far. check out

Where to get the best deal for an iMac?

Posted by:

I’m currently re-doing my home studio and I’m looking for the best deal for a 27″ iMac with a 2.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 and 8GB memory. All the iMacs come with a 4GB memory so I will have to buy an additional 4GB to upgrade it.

Any suggestions where I can get the best deal?

Hello Mr. Monotron!

Posted by:

Aramex delivered my package today after two weeks of waiting. I had ordered the Korg Monotron and the Auralex Isolation Pads for my M-Audio BX8a studio monitors. Apparently the Monotron which is a palm sized analog synthesizer was the reason for the delay as it was held in customs since last Wednesday.

Anyways, I’ll be spending a perfect weekend playing with my new toy. Maybe I’ll post a video in action sometime.

VIVA launches iPhone 4 at unbeatable prices

Posted by:

Here’s a bit of good news for all those who’ve had their eyes on the iPhone 4 for a while now. VIVA has partnered with Apple and launched the iPhone 4 at unbeatable prices today and you can now get one starting at KD 69.99.

During a press conference yesterday, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Badran VIVA Kuwait CEO announced that VIVA Kuwait will launch the new iPhone 4 in Kuwait on April 26 with a range of tariff plans tailored for iPhone customers. He noted, “We at VIVA care a lot about our customers and we want to satisfy their needs as possible and this is why VIVA decided to bring in the iPhone 4 and set all the VIVA services in the device to make it easier and cheaper for its customers.

Anoud Muthaib Senior Segment Manager at VIVA Kuwait told the press, “The prices of the iPhone at VIVA will be very competitive compared to other companies and shops selling iPhones. We worked very hard to make this partnership with Apple and it took us along time to educate and train our employees on the iPhone 4.”

Note: The iPhone 4 handsets are not locked to VIVA and can be used with any other telecom provider in Kuwait or abroad. And VIVA will be the first to launch the upcoming iPhone 5. Great job and good luck VIVA!

Samsung SMART TV launched in Kuwait

Posted by:

I was reading through the Kuwait Times and spotted this article that the Samsung Smart TV was launched in Kuwait yesterday by Samsung Gulf Electronics and Al Andalus Trading Company. The TV has some pretty cool features where you can browse the internet, download apps and even connect with friends on social media networks while watching the same TV shows or even play Poker plus a host of other options. The remote control also doubles as a QWERTY keyboard. It’s like an all-in-one ultimate product that tops the smart phones and tablet computers.

The Smart TV is available in 32″, 40″, 46″ and 55″. The prices were not mentioned in the article, for that I’ll have to stop by and find out more.

Check out all the features on their official [Website] and Facebook [Page].

Update: Average price per unit is KD400.

BlackBerry Playbook is out

Posted by:

The BlackBerry Playbook (odd choice for a name) hit the stores yesterday. There has been a lot of comparisons going on for a while now since it’s RIM‘s first attempt to compete against Apple’s iPad and the fact that they developed their own QNX-based OS instead of going for Android like the other tablets.

Here are some of its features:

  • 7″ LCD display, 1024 x 600 screen resolution
  • 3 megapixel front camera and 5 megapixel rear camera (no flash)
  • Back rubberized plastic back and sides
  • Vibrant display with rich colors and sharper images
  • WiFi (no SIM Card slot)
  • Micro HDMI port
  • Faster computing speed with 1 GHz dual-core processor and 1 GB RAM
  • Supports Flash playback and HTML5
  • 8 – 10 hours battery life without multitasking

Click [Here] for a full list of features and specs.

The only minus point is that they have limited apps optimized for the Playbook currently and it’s best features are more for the serious business users. If you have a BlackBerry phone you can synchronize it wirelessly with the Playbook through a feature called BlackBerry Bridge that lets you use the BB Messenger and access emails and calendar.

Electrozan is selling the 16GB BlackBerry Playbook for KD 239. I will pass by to check it out.

[Here] is a detailed review by Engadget.
