Ice Hockey Asian Cup in Kuwait?
Posted by: Hash
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Asian Challenge Cup will be held in Kuwait next week from April 24th–30th. The countries participating in the tournament are Kuwait, UAE, Hong Kong, India, Macau and Thailand.
I had no idea Kuwait has an ice hockey team and that an official tournament is being held here. It’s obviously going to be at the Ice Skating Rink but I will have to get more info on that. Does anyone know more about this?

This year the Hala February Festival will start on Friday Jan 28th with a street carnival on Salem Al-Mubarak Street in Salmiya between 2 pm and 6:30pm. Their slogan for this year’s festival is ‘Hilwa Ya Kuwait’ (You’re Beautiful, Kuwait) and the main focus is on the kids with a lot of activities especially planned for them. The opening carnival will feature folk arts, Arabic and international music performances, a circus show and many other competitions. They will also include the longest Kuwaiti flag, amateurs’ exhibitions and other activities for kids. The carnival will finish off with a firework display.
Another world record by Kuwait
Posted by: Mona
This time it is the ‘Longest Balloon Chain’ created by the Marina World. The chain branched out from the Central Dome of the Marina Mall into the passages measuring 14km in length with a total of 70,000 balloons. This was done in 10 days by Marina World, Fiesta Kuwait and Gulfnet. A Guinness World Records representative evaluated the balloon chain and declared it a new world record.

This was another of Marina World’s innovative attempts. They flew the largest flag in the world raised by helium balloons at the Marina Crescent for the National Day last year. This year Kuwait did it again by making the world’s longest flag for the 50/20 National celebrations.
It’s a good achievement but from the environmental point of view I hope they used latex balloons and dispose them off properly later on. Normally it takes about 6 – 10 months for a latex balloon to biodegrade compared to the 10 days it took to put them up.
