ESF Winter Fayre

Posted by:

Yesterday was the Annual Winter Fayre of the English School Fahaheel. The mood was very festive with happy faces, good music and the school choir adding to the merriment with all time favorite Christmas carols. But overall, it was very modest and there weren’t any exciting stalls or vendors except a few. There were school books, old DVDs, someone selling ancient computers for 5 KD, Color Me Mine, Starbucks, henna artists, Indian jewelry, homemade cheesecake and a few more. I would have tried the cheesecake if it wasn’t for the flies. The only ones I liked was a stall where I got Almarai Lozain chocolate cupcakes for free (!) and a stall selling unique Christmas gifts which were mostly handmade and very adorable. There were also some nice raffle prizes like tickets to London and Bahrain, laptop, newspaper subscriptions and more.

I was then on the lookout for something to eat and there was Pizza Hut, Sakura and Dawat restaurant. It was annoying to see that they hike up their prices at the school bazaars. Pizza Hut was offering a personal meal of small pizza , wedges and pepsi for KD 2.650! The salesperson was confused actually, he first said KD 1.750 and then his colleague quickly corrected him to KD 2.650, so I declined since it normally costs KD 1.950 and I didn’t want to support the hike. Dawat had samosas for KD 0.500 each and few other overpriced snacks. I didn’t bother to check out Sakura because I figured it would be the same story. Although MacDonalds were there too, but they just had the games and facepainting. Why is food overpriced at school bazaars?! Shouldn’t it be the same price or less?
